I got to go bid on a large built-in this week. The client wants in a white finish. I was wondering how many of you sub out your finish and how you include it in your bid.

To prevent moisture buildup and improve performance, install a continuous air barrier—such as drywall or specialized membranes—under tongue-and-groove boards or other interior wall paneling.

Hey Ron,
I've done this a few times. Once with a painter I trust, and twice with a furniture refinisher. I had them give me a cost, I marked it up, and included it in my bid.
So far, no trouble. They took care of the touch-up.

Ditto. The more info you give the better. If they really like you, you might be able to get a sample first for the customer to see, if that appeals to you. Better luck on that with "common" colors, i.e. fruitwood and lacquer, but you never know. They might have some white lacquer sitting around they could shoot a sample with for you. I think if the possibility of touchups are in the future, I'd say that up front too. They work it into their bid, maybe it happens, maybe not. At least you're covered at that point.
