I have a redwood and teak deck. Unfortunately for everyone involved, the contractor went belly up prior to finishing the project. I am left to build the stairs- a metal framework is in place, I just need to build the treads. My problem- I’m having trouble locating redwood (2×8 or 2×6). Any recommendations for a substitute? I have considered cedar or cypress. Don’t want to use anything synthetic as it won’t match the rest of the deck.
Any recommendations? I am in the Dallas, TX area.
Thanks!

Red cedar or honduras mahogany if you want something a bit harder. Steps do tend to wear from the heavy traffic they support.
Both species should be easily available. Cali Redwood's on some kind of 'no cut' list, I think. Your former contractor may have picked it up from a recycler or job-lot outfit.
