Okay, everybody–school’s out for the summer, and all those little helpers we’re all so proud of should be trotting along with Dad or Mom to the site and charming the pants off the HO. Let’s see what you’ve got so far this summer in the Construction Kids Photo Gallery.
Last week I had a ‘rush’ stain job on a 50 year old log cabin down at the big lake; I’d done the fiddly work (the prep and the trim painting) the week before, so this week was staining the logs with a solid colour oil stain product that goes on pretty easily. No cutting in, nothing critical in this phase, just a lot of brush work and moving scaffolds and ladders. So, since it was a rush job, I brought my helper along and even bought him his own set of pure bristle brushes. I mean, after all, he’s not a little boy any more–he turned SIX in April and he’s catching bigger fish ‘n’ IMERC (except for the ones swimming up his driveway, LOL).
Here’s a few of shots of my little guy on the site–and a bonus ‘bragging’ pic of him with his 16½” trout just fer good measure….

Good lookin' kid.
Glad to see ya got him wearing bib overalls. (-:
I'll have to look around and see if I've got any pics of my Son. It will probably be Tuesday before I can, though...

I'm ashamed to say I can't find a single picture of Sterling on the job this summer. Here is a shot of him last August with a joist hanger traveling at mach speed through his imagination.
And don't call Child Protective Services on me - that's just dirt on his face. <G>

Took me a while to find a few pictures, but here they are.
All of these have my Son, Carl in them. He's always up for working on something. He says he enjoys tearing things up more than putting them together. (-:
The first picture is him trying to break off form ties in a basement.
Then we move to him and the neighbor kids busting out plaster.
Next is him using a Takeuchi skid steer loader to load dirt in my truck. It had joystick controls which were hard for me to get used to. He jumped on there and in 2 minutes was running it as well as I could.
In the next picture, he's using my tractor and blade to tear up roots in the yard. After that you see him picking up roots and rocks.
The last one is him using a harrow to work the dirt down and get it ready for seeding.

Ok, I finally got a few shots. Here's the boy with my bags and hat on, a couple shots of him fishing with my chalk box, and one of him chillin' with his thoughts.

I'll toss in a couple more--Here's my little guy doing a job for himself: a new hiking stick (he'd outgrown the one I made him two summers ago by a good bit). I was just talking to him about this kind of stuff last night. I told him, he'd proabbly never be rich, but he would be rich in EXPERIENCES.
And I told him not to underestimate how talented he is.
Hopefully some of it will stick in his brain. I'm trying to get some of this stuff to stick in there before my boys become hard-headed teenagers like I was. (-:Exciting minority teens? How, by aiming gamma rays at them until the spontaneously ejected a photon? [Rohit Khare]
Even while they're hard-headed teenagers, stuff you put there earlier tends to lurk in the nether regions of their consciousness until they get older and re-appreciate it.

Jeff,
I had a job recently for which the 290(pictured) was just too big so I rented a bobcat 331 for the day. I had Josh with me and he absolutely refused to let me on that machine without him. He had a ball. Told me (and anyone who would listen) that it was a "Joshie" size excavator and that the 290 is a "daddy " excavator. He is so precious, The other day told me he wanted to be just like me......... makes you proud but also sober at the same time. they are the greatest thing in the world and we have a tremendous responsibility to set the best example possible for them.
BTW you aren't that far away ( about an hour and a half) ......... If you ever want to give Corey the chance to ride on the machine let me know. I'm sure we can arrange something.
Later
where ya at?
We're big time into the Bob the Builder stage ...

all cranes are Lofty .... and the dumptrucks ... well they're still Dump Trucks!
coupla weeks ago ... he comes in the door crying ... the wife was bring him home at the usual time from daycare. She made tha mistake of pulling over at the job site where they had all the machines going ... problem was .... he never wanted to leave!

Any chance you could resize them pictures?
I ain't gonna download anything that big on my dialup unless it's a picture of Pamela Anderson.

Gald to see someone else posting pics of their kids.
But could you make 'em a bit smaller for us folks on dial-up accounts?Consultants are mystical people who ask a company for a number and then give it back to them.
Sorry about the size. The pictures are from my digital camera that I'm trying to get familiar with. I realized before I downloaded the pictures that there's 640x480 size I can set it too. I shrunk them. Let me know if they're still to big.

Actually, I'm so far out in the sticks that high speed internet isn't even available...A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.
Hey Boss, have you tried satellite broadband or maybe something like http://www.dtnspeed.net/
I had a friend who used DTN a while back when he lived in a little podunk town that didn't have any other broadband available. He seemed pleased with it. I think they use cell phone towers?
Although I'm still using dial-up. My aversion to broadband has something to do with the $45/month charge. I start thinking of better things to do with $540 every year.
