I have an existing home that suffers from occasional water seepage from the base of the block walls in a few places. Since part of the basement is already finished, I was planning on putting a 4″ drain tile only on the outside of the foundation. Is it necessary to run a drain tile inside the footings? Does the drain tile with a sock over it work as well or better than using fabric? What about putting in vertical drains for the window wells that connect to the footing drain? Are they worth it? Should anything be put on the outside block walls, now that they are exposed? I would like to also put in a dry well to catch the sum pump output, but do not know much about them or how big to make one. I live in Minnesota, so was wondering if burying the line to the dry well about 12-18″ would be wise as long as it was sloped good. I think I have sandy-loam soil, but do not know the soil percolation rate or anything like that. How does a person know if the soil or dry well will handle the water output of the sup pump? The local inspection offices did not have much information for me on dry wells or putting in a sump pump. I just can’t dump it in the sanitary sewer. Any information/feedback would be much appreciated.
