Magic marker.....paint...?????
eddy,
A friend of mine did it a few years ago mainly because somebody told him it couldn't be done. I saw the result but not the process.
I think he used single 8 which is hard to find now. I think he ripped long triangles from the bottom and used the top of each offcut piece as a starter. I don't know how he finished the last vertical piece. Maybe it was assembled from two.
Wood is probably easier.

buy 5 over 5 siding. cut off the nail strip below the locking seam. then rip the siding down the middle below the top 5 at the crease. you should have two identicle strips except one will have the bottom locking strip. Use the ones with the locking strip first, you wont see the others from the ground
At a minimum put 30# paper on the wall. I would use aluminum coil over felt. flash INTO the bottom J and make sure the water can get back to day light. one side will repel water and the other side will collect water.
punch slots along the top of each strip. "J" the circle, put undersill trim in the bottom horizontal J for termination at the other side. start the pattern with one horizontal piece then over lap and taper the successive pieces as needed.
Go up and over. The second to last piece should have the full nail and locking strip to hold the last piece.
