Greetings,
I am a future owner-builder (construction starts in the Spring). I read with great interest the article “Surface-Bonded Block” in Fine Homebuilding’s “Foundations and Concrete Work”, p. 126. The technique is attractive to me due to its speed of construction, expense and simplicity (my masonry experience is limited to modest brick and concrete block walls). I have mentioned the technique to several people in the area (Cape Cod) who are builders and they don’t know much about it (and thus don’t like it!). I have not been able to find any other information, particularly any studies done by a government or trade group. I cannot find USDA Information Bulletin 374 mentioned in the article.
Anyone know of any information sources? Anyone have any personal experiences? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
