We are thinking of putting a swimming pool in next year. I would love to see some pictures of unique pools.
Thanks, Ditch

A unique pool would be one that needed no maintenance.
That would be the only pool that I would ever have in a back yard.
The ideal pool is an inside pool, no leaves, no dead beasties in the morning, no security problems, no ice in the winter, year round use......
We're building a couple as we speak and these have fiber optic lights and is designed so that the overflow falls over blast rock into a large pond. Shape is not unique but will look reasonably cool at the end of the day.
Gabe
You doing them as a vanishing edge? I have a request for that in a design.
Cloud,
In most designs to achieve that "look" the pool coping is removed at the waterfall end.
In our case, it's an illusion. There will be a foot path between the two and black tile will be installed at the end of the pool to give the illusion of a tunnel or openning under the foot path. The water will be pumped up from the pond to have water dripping back towards itself.
Email me your fax number and I'll send you a cross section between the two.
Gabe
Thanks for the kind offer. Alas, I don't have fax in...do everything with email. If I find a fax machine amongst friends, I may ask you about this later. Thanks again.

I've seen the infinity pools a few times on HGTV and I've been wondering about the construction. What would be the tolerance for level across the outside coping? Should I be impressed at the accuracy of the builders or do they have enough pump to give themselves 1/2" of water over the edge.Jon Blakemore
For all the ones I've read about that work, and from a discussion with a pool builder, you should be impressed with the work methods and skill of a builder who does it effectively.
A vanishing edge, is that like the finish you see in an infinity pool in some hotels??
Where the water just disappears over an edge that you can't see. Just the water surface?
Gabe......I take it your a pool contractor......I'm buying a 322 ( see pix below) year old home that has an in ground pool in the back that looks kinda out of place if you can imagine.....A free form gunite pool would have blended in better but its a nice pool none the less....I was wondering about removing the coping and brick in sand suround and installing stone coping etc etc....any thoughts on revamping to fit the enviorment? I'm guessing its about 15 x 25ish....rectangle
Thanks
BE well

Incredible historic circa 1680 Colonial on two flat acres. Generous size rooms, wide planked floors, two fireplaces and loft. Great house with all the charm an older home can offer. It's not who's right, it's who's left ~ http://CLIFFORDRENOVATIONS.COM
Andy,
No, I'm not a pool contractor but the hotel and a lot of buildings that I do build have pools so I've done a good number of them.
Can't think of what pool would fit your 300+ year old house other than a pond or a free form as you indicated. A rectangular shaped pool would have to be incorporated into an european garden complete with fountains on the side but your house doesn't lend itself to that style. Is the pool far enough away from the house to build a carriage house over it?
I've got a better deal for ya Andy. How about the original stone homestead of the inventor of basketball and 45 acres, on the side of a beautiful river for about 300,000 US. Taxes 1,300 US per year
BTW, you can remove the copings of course and replace them with stone ones.

Why don't you look at some infinity pools? They are the best kind of pool. Or a Fibreglass Swimming Pools, they have a wide range of colour and interior finish options. Or a vinyl pool, it is a popular and cost-effective option. Talk to your contractor he may have some other best ideas for you .
