Hello all,
The kinder will be turning a year old soon and the mom would like the dad to get one of those kits (swing-n-slide) where all you need to add it the wood. What would you recommend and how would you treat it? We would like to stay away from pressure treated and want it to look as good as it is strong.
Thanks to all for any help you can give, turtleboy

we had a wooden swing set etc.
it was a full kit, just paint and put together
they provided the paint which was a good quality.
the wood was not treated
i soaked the ends of the uprights in a preservative by standing them in the preservative, this was for maybe 24 hours. wanted to be sure the ends soaked up the preservative.
cross braces that touched the grounf received the same process
the paint covered both
it lasted 8-10 years, don't remember exactly

I started to buld my own based on models from Rainbow Platystructures. I bought all the hardware from American Swing Co. in Nevada. They had great prices on everything you need, they even have the close link safety chain.
The problem is that I never finished the project, but I did at least get the swings and trapeze bar working. Next is the slide and climbing wall. What I'm trying to say here is that even though you think you're saving money, you realy aren't. If you can afford it, buy as big of a system that can fit your space. Also, make sure the swing beam is 10' off the ground- the shorter ones will get out grown quickly.
Finally, it sounds like your child is a little young for a play structure. I would wait until they're at least 3 years old. That way you can start them on a larger, more challenging system that they wont out grow too soon.
Thanks for the info, You had some good tips. I'll let the misses check it out.
