F.Y.I, If you own a toyota tacoma you may be able sell it back to toyota for 150% of the bluebook value.
I have seen it on toyota’s web page myself. They are going to send out letters to owners of these trucks. If you don’t get one the dealerships will do an inspection. The issue is apparently frame rot.
To bad, I really liked that truck.

I have had toyotas pick ups since 72, frame rot has alwayd been a problem. the frame will hold dirt and when it gets wet. Its nothing new
I almost bought one from Craigslist figuring I'd turn it around and let Toyota buy it from me for a $3K profit...
Starting sounding like too much work and a possible headache.

I was told you had to have had it registered in your name in order to get the check. This stopped those that would go to the junkyard and buy a bunch!
The recall is for 95 to 00 Tacoma, and if it deemed by the dealer, I herd they will cut you a check on the spot. I have an 01 and missed the cut.

I heard a rumor that eventually the recall may be extended to '01 & '02 vehicles. With the current economy, however . . . They probably don't want to dig themselves in any deeper if they don't have to.
I've got an '01 also, but everything looks solid as far as I can tell.

Just got a letter today from Toyota.
For the '01 through '04 model years, at least in the cold climate states (salted roads in winter), they are offering to extend the frame perforation warranty to 15 years, and provide rust proofing treatments.
If there is frame perforation, they will either repair or buy back at 150% of KBB value.

I have an 85 that I have already replace the frame. and I dont live in salt land
I'm interested in buying one
I was wondering what kind of gas mileage they get
I turned in my 96 Tacoma 4x4 with 140,000 miles. Rust ,dings and dents, all the kids learned to drive with it. They gave a check for $8200 and a Certificate for a thousand towards a new truck. I was going to sell the truck for $2000. The 150% is based on assuming the truck is in excellent condition. They also tell you to take anything like a radio etc. The whole deal was done in less than two weeks. You can just leave the truck and they send you the check. I am going to buy another Toyota without a doubt. Kevin
this has been going on for almost a year now. i believe you get less money if the vehicle was bought after the recall was announced to deter from people trying to make money off the program. but i had a '97 with 180,000 miles, dented to hell, rust, cracked winshield, etc. kbb excellent came in under just 8k so i got check for 11,880. but it did take 2 months to get the check, toyota took the truck from me when it failed the inspection and while toyota gave me a free rental til the check showed up it was a yaris. not the best for construction material.

My '01 Tacoma is going in to the shop shortly for a new frame.
Failed inspection for frame rot, so I took it to Toyota for them to check it out. On the newer Tacomas they aren't buying them back - they're replacing the frames. The good part about it is that they won't charge me labor for replacing items which have to be pulled during the process. My muffler & tailpipe parted company just before I took it in, so I'll have them replace that. Shocks are original, so I'll probably have them replaced, and the rear bumper isn't in great shape, either.
Supposedly Toyota is paying the dealers for 60 hours to do each replacement. I've also heard that it's nominally a $14K job (probably what they'd charge someone off the street). Dana Corp, who apparently made the frames, is supposedly picking up at least part of the cost.
