We have an existing house that is built on a slight hill. The septic leach lines run across the hill behind the house (although there’s kid of a platuea where the line and house are). During heavy, multi-day rain storms some water accumulates under the house in the downhill corner. This water has a smell of sewage to it. My theory is that the water is running underground through the leach field and since the ground is saturated the black water from the septic tank is not yet absorbed and is getting mixed in with the rain water.
This only happens during heavy storms. My question is: (1) does this sound feasible; (2) would you consider this a health issue; (3) what can be done about it?
Thanks
