Our circa 1931 house has a steam by oil system that includes a tankless coil for hot water. The existing coil is shot and needs to be replaced.
We are trying to decide what is the best solution to providing hot water. We see the options as:
1. Replace the coil and leave the system as is.
2. Replace the coil and add an auxiliary holding tank.
3. Eliminate the coil and go with an Amtrol Hot Water Maker that will run off the boiler.
Does anyone have experience with this kind of decision and, if so, which path did you choose. A reliable plumber suggested (contrary to our oil company) that the Amtrol does not work well with steam systems and was designed to be used with hot water only.
I think the only other pertinent data is that we have three full baths, 2 adults, and one child.
Thanks in advance for the help.
