Tankless heater+ heat tape + smart devices = instant hot shower?
This may not be too practical but why not install heat tape on the hot water line from a tankless (or regular) water heater to the showerhead for a hot shower ready to go. With an inexpensive smart plug and temperature sensor on the hot supply pipe (between the tank & heat tape), the heat tape could be programmed to turn on every morning without wasting electricity. Heat tape is turned off once hot water is detected flowing from the WH.
Ok, financially, it’s not practical or justifiable but a hot shower ready to go would be a nice treat.
Any thoughts on why this might not be a good idea?

Easier to purchase a TacoGenie pump and install at furthest fixture. Push the button and hot water with no water down the drain
My first thought was the cost to have that running 24/7 would be less than ideal...but if it's connected to a timer/smart plug that might be an easier solution. Thanks!
You start it with a push button and it turns off when it senses a temp of 106. So it is not 24/7 but you have hot water available 24/7 with the push of a button. I usually mount the push button in the cabinet face or side so you can reach it but not where it is "in your face"
Thanks Bing! That's the way we'll go.
