I need to tape the seams of the 6 mil black polyethylene I’ll be installing for a crawl space vapor barrier. What tape is used for a permanent connection?
I’m already familiar with Tu-Tuff and other high performance membranes; all these are not an option for this job.
Thanks in advance.

Around here we just lap the edges a foot and stick a couple of rocks on top....
I've found the red tape used for Tyvek works well, if you want to go that way.
cheers
***I'm a contractor - but I'm trying to go straight!***
Just use a good, messy acoustic caulk and lap the edges.
Another vote for just overlapping, althouygh I go 18".
If you're really determined to tape the seams, better to spend the $ for obsessive compulsive disorder treatment <G,D&R>
Original idea was to use a machine for fusion welding the seams. Hmm... I thought I'd licked the OCD when the therapist suggested the tape idea. :-)
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Does anyone have any additional experience with tape for this application?
you need to have the final seams checked to code, per the ASTM standard by a certified seam inspector. You do want to do it right don't you?
"per the ASTM standard by a certified seam inspector.per the ASTM standard by a certified seam inspector."Those must be the people that leave the notes "Inspected by #7" in the packages of Fruit of Loam.
The obvious solution is to get yourself ASTM certified. Then you can tell the ladies that you're a certified seam inspector and you need to inspect the seams on their undies.
I'm in the process of the same job....bought the 6 mil yesterday and considered duct tape for the job...but I had to buy enough plastic to cover an acre so I knew I would have enough to over lap 3 or 4 feet...and go with the rock idea
