Professional Remodeler has no Forum or Bulletin Board. Hanley-Wood’s Remodeling Online forum is dead. Qualified Remodeler’s Bulletin Board’s never even got off the dock. If must be of a tremendous expense for any publisher to create and maintain a Forum of any type, and especially since they generate no income, so it’s like throwing money into a pit. Not something any smart “business” person is likely to do.

We should all be very appreciative of Taunton Press for maintaining this Forum alive. Also, I think it would be prudent for each of us to remember that we are “professional” guests in their home and as such, we should act accordingly. Perhaps in deferrence to Taunton Press and the lady viewers here we can eliminate all vargarities as we would in any other’s home as a guest while also remembering that we’re really “not” – in a Tavern after all.

Thank you Taunton Press for this on going gift.

*Err actually you aren't in the Tavern you're in the business section. And although I don't post there a lot I always understood it to be a place where you can kick back and have open discussions. I believe it says "After hours and such. If you have to ask more, you don't need to be here." Now as far as the rest of the site goes I pretty much agree with you.

*Gunner, I know this isn't The Tavern. My point was that regardless of which "forum" one interacts with another, they are still guests at the home of Taunton Press. I don't see why a forum "type" heading should change the way one talks because bottom line - it's all "public." I would/should - not speak in a manner in The Tavern any more than I would in your own home sitting at the basement bar. Believe me, I can throw it out as the next guy, but I just think there is a place for raunchy talk and it's not on a public forum, and certainly not for "professionals". The Web has enough sites for that. It matters not to me if someone is just a tradesman or a business owner. He/she is still an individual first and how one conducts him/her self in public is indicative of one's own character.Anyway, I don't mean to make an issue of it - just typed in a forgotten observation. I'm one of those old fashioned guys who still stands up when a lady walks into the room, and when I used to wear a hat, took it off in a woman's presence.

*Here's my point about the Tavern. "After hours and such. If you have to ask more, you don't need to be here." As far as how I act in public I do what I do,or as Popeye used to say. "I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam." I do that here and in public. I don't feel a need to go on the internet and tell people that I stand when a lady enters a room. Like most men I do it and shut up. Actualy I stand and greet any time anyone enters a room if it's small enough. In large informal settings I stay seated. It kind of looks dumb if your in a cafateria and you pop up everytime a lady enters. And I hold the door for the person behind me, even when I'm desperate to get to the bathroom. But that's a whole nother topic.

*Sonny,No matter what you have to say you always say it with class and insight. You and many of the regulars here are what make this site worth coming back to.

*I would have to agree that this is an excellent post site. All the ideas, exchange of information, new techniques, real experience..............hmmmmmm perhaps I could write a few articles........maybe even generate information for a.............magazine!

          10. Dan_Dear | May 06, 2001 03:31am | #14

*Brent, good luck with writing articles for consumer mags. Concerning contractors of any kind are desired if they speak of our untrustworthiness and incompetence. That's what sells. Juicy horror stories sell, not clients that are thrilled with their projects and contractors.Have you ever noticed any consumer mag articles authored by a member of NARI, NAHB, RC or from one of our industry magazine editors that espoused "our" side of the coin regarding unethical or incompetent clients?
