Yes... and no.
If i'm just squaring off an end the housing bypasses the wood. If I'm taking a larger bite my housing hits the wood and the blade fails to pass through by less than 1/4". When that happens I just keep the saw down and running and pull the post away from the fence and off she comes.
But.. that's just my beater, off brand framing saw.
The old Rockwell IIRC has a higher frame/top guard and will do the trick. Same with a Delta. Haven't tried to chop a 4x4 with my LS1013, yet.
My Milwaukee saw will do it - On a square cut only.
Mind you I am just a lowly diy ;) but I found my Craftsman would not do it cleanly without moving it as previous poster stated. Then i figured If I had like 1/2' "blocking" added to my fence it would do it in a clean one-time swoop. I thought what a hassle, but if I am to make a few cuts I might as well do it.
I didn't know if all saws were like this or not.
Oh, then I realized my freakin fence was bent in the middle like a C!!!!!!! How in the heckfire did I do that??? No idea.
Glad I found out now though.
