Any experience whether 1/8″ is ok for interior doors? I am using a rice paper laminate to make the doors look like Shoji screens. I can do 1/8 and sandwich the stuff so both sides are cleanable, or I can do 1 side on 1/8 or 1 side on 1/4. If a door gets slammed I don’t want glass gravel everywhere. Also, space between door and glass?(how loose to fit the glass)

1/8" ds glass is quite common.
Doors with relights that are within 18" of the floor needs to be tempered. IIRC
I would call Gary Roles @ Courtesy Glass they are based down in Kent, & they can pretty much sell you any glass application you need.
You should check out white laminated glass. This is essentially a commercial version of what you are describing. Two pieces of glass with a white obscure lamination between. It is also considered safty glass and considered comprable to tempering glass. It is usually about $15 per sq foot which will be less than two seperate sheets of tempered.
Found a product like that with tempering and a rice paper look center. It was horrendously expensive. Turns out its better to sandwich your own or just do one side. We can do closets one sided as the inside sees no wear. Regular doors get the sandwich. Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities- Voltaire
The white laminated should be about the same price as tempered, it's not rice paper inside, so it will not look quite the same, but it is close, and will have a similar effect.
Not according to our local glass folks. They said the factory laminated is about 4 times the cost. Don't know if that has to do with product or their margin, but either way, its DIY now. Google Solyx to see the various films you can get. In the old days these were pretty cheesy, but most of these are now quite nice. They have 6 variations of rice paper from opaque to nearly clear. Shoji's were 700 per screen, a standard door with glass and laminate will be a little more durable, if less exotic. Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities- Voltaire

Unless someone gets tempted to cram just one more suitcase or cardboard box in there. The way we use closets, I'd probably put a sheet of 1/4" ply over the inside.
