Any suggestions for a temporary material to caulk around a bathroom sink? I’ll be pulling it out in a few months when I install the ‘real’ counter top. If I use silicone is there a solvent that will cut it?
Thanks,
Scott.

Yep. There is a silicone caulk solvent. I get mine at the local HW store in the paint dept. (Don't remember the brand name, but it's in an orange squeeze bottle.) You have to let it sit for a bit, but it does a pretty good job. Just don't caulk under the rim where you can't get at it to cut the sink loose.

If its temporary then just use latex caulk, that'll last until your ready to pull it up.
I'd hesitate to use silicone temporarily, to much of a pain in the azz to get up.

There is some removable caulk used for winterizing. It peels off when you dont need it. Should work fine.
Liquid nails makes WindJammer and Dap makes Peel N Seal. Both of these are temporary weatherstripping type caulking that you can, allegedly just peel off when summer comes (or in your case, when your new coutertop comes). Windjammer says its waterproof though I'm not sure they mean for it to be used in a bathroom. For a few months though, you might try it.
How about old fashioned plumbers putty. It will do what you need, and, unless you're working with a porous stone (like marble or its cousin limestone), no trouble to remove.

Yeah, either use one of the temporary caulks designed for winterizing, or use plumber's putty. The caulk removers work to a degree, but not well enough that you can count on them in this situation.
happy?
Thanks all. Those are good ideas. I'll look around for one of these products.
