Temporary disconnect return
House is in zone 2… But it’s winter and now using heat off and on. In the middle of a total remodel. House is one story ranch type.
There are 2 returns……one at bedroom entrance the other floor level in the living room. Replacing the entire system in a few
months. The floor return will be vacated and placed in another location. The question is…….can I disconnect that return temporarily
till the new system arrives. It’s in the remodel way and needs to move. Unfortunately I cant direct it elsewhere in the conditioned
space due to foamed Exterior walls. Just want to run the heat portion of the a/c with the one return for a couple months.
thanks.

If by "bedroom entrance" you
If by "bedroom entrance" you mean the return is inside the bedroom you would want to be sure to never shut the bedroom door if that were the only return in the house. Otherwise, most systems should be able to run with half their returns cut off, though efficiency and effectiveness would be impacted -- you'll probably blow a lot of money out the chimney.
