Termite/bug shield for full above grade exterior foundation wall?
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to install some rigid foam on the exterior concrete foundation wall of my townhome. The wall is completely above grade with a concrete driveway at the base of the wall.
I know for foundation walls with soil contact having a termite/bug guards is usually recommended , but is that still the case when the whole wall is above grade and has no soil contact?
Thanks in advance.

What you want is to eliminate any hidden route for termites from the soil to wood. In new construction you could put sheet metal under the bottom plate folded over the foam. Since you can’t get under the plate I’d just leave off the insulation above grade.
Thanks for the reply. AS a follow up - there's no soil contact. where the foam would be.
The foam/cladding over the foam would be in contact with a concrete driveway, so technically there's already no route from soil to wood.
Also since the wall is a full above grade and concrete it's a pretty big heat sink. It's also north facing, so very cold just due to that orientation.
I could do interior foam, but that particular wall has a lot of water, gas, electrical, sewer venting, and hvac ducts to work around on the interior so it's a bit trickier than exterior - not impossible, just less ideal.
The joint between the driveway and the wall could be a route in. This should be seriously caulked to prevent this. Seal the foam to the wall with pest stop and protect the foam with sheet metal or equivalent. Should be OK.
Thank you, appreciate the insight.
