I’m in the beginning stages of rebuilding an old (1900) amish barn. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can treat the massive beams with before I recover them with new barn siding. I’ve heard of treating with a solution with boron in it but cannot find anything more about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bugsie

I have my houses treated with soemthing called Boracare (sp?). The thing about borate treatments is that the area must stay dry, as the chemical washes away very easily.
I found this website selling termite control borate solutions. It has a lot of info on termite control.

The first great rule for controlling subterranean termites is separation. You need at least 6" between any untreated wood and the ground - and more is better. If you use pressure treated wood, you'll want to hand treat any saw cuts or holes. I've used a product called Coppergreen that goes on with an old paintbrush.
Equally important is controlling moisture. The little buggers like to build their colonies in damp soil. The dryer the soil, the fewer termite problems.
