Needed a washer to stop a pesky leak in the kitchen sprayer (found it, leak stopped, wife happy).
Ventured over to the local HD and found the answer to Obama’s energy chief’s recommendation / suggestion — white roofs.
“EnviroWhite” manufactured by Henry. A white roof coating to make your dark roof white — “Save up to 40% on energy costs”. There is always that qualifier….
$119. for 4.75 gallons – 2 coats on mineral surface (existing, bad, dark shingles), coverage = 1.5 gallons / 100 square feet (recommended 2 coat consumption), life expectancy is 10 years.
So for $37.66 a square (labor not included) you can be the first one on your block to have a white roof and show everyone how green you are.
Just thought you should all know.
Wonder how many DIY’s will fall off of their roofs rolling this stuff on…….

Will it stick to a blue tarp?
Should I paint the tires on my trailer with it too?

Don't know, didn't read the bucket that close. They did mention smooth surfaces though --- get 200 sq feet / gallon on smooth..........
JimNever underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
The stuff's been around for years, probably decades. It does help down south.
Never seen it before - certainly not labeled as "EnviroWhite".
Have seen the aluminized stuff since the late '70's -- flat mobile home roofs mostly.

It's your standard "elastomeric coating" that's been around for years. Available in black, white, and grey. The stuff actually has a use (beyond "Enviro") in extending the life of a roof when you don't want to replace it right away. Looks like carp, of course, but pretty durable.

Yeah, it's the same stuff that the RV people sell for coating EPDM roofs. I agree, looks like carp, but it does have some reflective properties. If I was replacing a roof, I'd go with galvanized steel before shingles with the goop. In fact, I can't imagine how ugly the stuff would look rolled onto shingles. Anyone got pics?Scott.

I used the grey stuff once to stretch the life of our roof by a year or two. Didn't do the whole roof, just the bad areas.

trailer trash loves the stuff, I use it to waterproof the wood around my windows.under the trim
Your right.
I used it twice on the same roof over the course of ten years. Lasted just about 5 years each time, water proofed and kept the shop cooler.
Finally got enough $ together to tear the old place down and replace it.
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
