My clients had a deck which did not suit their lifestyles or esthetics. Rot was rampant and the 12 year old thing wasted too much space.

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

The client wanted to add a wine room for his growing collection of wines, so demolition of the old deck began quickly. We poured the footings and pad and discovered incredible rot.
In the end, about 3/8ths of the work was rot repair related.

Client asked we raise the deck level to the rear entry (kitchen) door, so we built the wine room and raised the existing deck via 2x12 and 2x8s . We used a torch on roof membrane which stopped 95% of the water infiltration. We used 2x6 studs for insulation values on the wine room, and 2x8 @ 12" centres for the roof.Quality repairs for your home.

With the finishing details coming together, the rains started. The boards are finished with 2 coats of Penofin.
The spindles are laminated 1x6 epoxied and cut to 2x1 3/8. Handrails are also laminated and cut to bevels; a drink can sit on the centre and the bevels sheet the rain off. The sides of the deck are boxed using the Pedra. Here are the completed units.Quality repairs for your home.

I sure do wish those pics were smaller.
I'm on dialup. It'll take me until sometime next week to download all of them. LOL

Interesting construction method on the bottom rails of the winder steps. Not sure I've seen it done like that before. Thanks much for giving us a look at the project.

We extended the hot tub enclosure by about 6 feet and with everything closed, began resheathing.
The decking material is Pedra, a Brazilian Mahogany look alike which comes locally in 4x4 or 5/4x6 (all nominal)
We laid the sleepers, 2x4 PT @ 1 ft centres and shimmed them up to make the decking level.
With the decking going down, Phil Eves ("Newfilter" on Breaktime) came on board to help with finer details and the stairs.Quality repairs for your home.
