Just checking the mileage on the illustrious Piffin . Looks like the 10K post mark is getting close. I say we start a pool as to what the date will be . Winner buys the guy a new key board. I say it will be some time on Sept 19, 03 if his foot dont start acting up.

I thought you were starting a ten kilomeeter run for charity!
Hadn't even looked at my tally since about sixK or so.
I am on my second keyboard for this PC and my wife is wondering if she can get some time on it. Told her I was thinking about a new PC since this one is slowing down for the CAD program lately.
Love being here with you guys. It relieves the boredom when I am waiting for this Gateway to crank up a new 3D from the floorplan drawing. Latest design job is a complex one with lots of custom detailing.

Actually, we'd be interested in knowing who you're gonna honour with the big dix mille. There's quite a few roofing threads going right now. Or are you gonna post new?

Ok so here's the challenge to the rest of us-
Like batting averages I've been running some quick numbers:
Piffin at the moment has 9685 post since March '02 to today, appr. 489 days. This equals a daily post average or DPA of 19.8 With an average estimate post time of 1.5 minutes. That works out to 14442 minutes or 241 hours of post time. That's like 10 days. That's 29.5 minutes daily. ( Please correct if low). 8)
I figured mine and since July '03 to today my DPA is 2.74.
I must be just a minor leaguer.
What's your secret Piffin? Do you do finger calisthenics or wrist curls. Maybe you have a masseuse rubbing your shoulders during a session.
And seriously "Are you beyond spell checker?"
I was going to ask if you have a life but then I realized what I just did and I don't think I have a life.
Seriously anybody out their done the math?
What's your DPA?
I may not like your choice of wood but I will defend to the death your right to use it. JAGWAH
This post edited 'cause I ain't good wit numbers.

Jagwah, my DPA would not get me into the Pee Wee leagues!
More math- at my projections of 19.8 daily Piffin should break the 10000 barrier around September15-16th.
On this historic day:
Who will toss out the post that marks this occassion? Do we make T-shirts? hence...
"I was there when Piffin posted 10K."
Hey I'd say we start a betting pool for the day Piffin breals 10K but since he controls it he might win. My bets on the 15th unless theirs a provocative political post.
Man, I gotta get a life.

I think we`d better include a time of post if we`re going to attempt an actual pool. Put me down for Sept. 16 at 9:27 AM.
And I think the "T"-shirt is a GREAT idea! I think I recall someone `round here mentioning either doing some print work or having a freind who does. Maybe Taunton would like to get involved with this, to help defray the costs. Nice big Fine Homebuilding logo somewhere on the shirt.J. D. Reynolds

If you include his post from the old pre-Prospero days, I am sure he is already well over 10K.
Hey Andy, did you guys keep any tally from back then?
Dave
Including those false starts, half starts , and other mistakes, and my total including preproperian posts positively has to be above fifteen grand.
There are days when six or seven is more than enough and I try to stay out of those political scuffles in the Tavern unless I'm feeling friskie that day and now that the troll debacle is behind us, my DPA must be less than 19.2. I was guessing about 12 or so.
Jaybird will have to be lucky to get me on the dot for time of day since I rarely log in in the AM except on weekends. Days when I am doing CAD work I am here with BT in the background all day though.
I don't know that there's any secret to it. Some guys come home and turn on the TV to zombie out.
TV is so incredibly boring to me and I stil keep learning from reading here and at JLC so I have the PC on and the interaction is fun. With the web connection open, I am available for quick contact by my out of town customers too. They like that fast response so It all works together. I get my daily entertainment, learn something, and have a few cyberfreinds over the wire, while doing some productive work and contributing back to the industry.
Since this is an island, the cultural or other entertainment events are limited to ten weeks in summer of highbrow stuff and the high schoool basketball season in winter.
Ever notice how many of the participants here arre from rather isolated geographic locations?.

So now that all have realized their DPA is far from catching the 'Big P'. Anyone thinking about changing their post name and going into an intensive posting cycle in order to get a higher DPA. Their overall count will never catch up but they could have a higher DPA.
just funnin
But another thought? Who has posted the subject that has lasted the longest and/or received the most post?
Who, if still here, earns the coveted "Stinky" The most subjects started that was pulled for what ever reason?
Anyone deserve the "DUMHO" award for the scariest or dumbest question posted? Like one I saw from someone doing their own electric but didn't know how to connect 440. Run away!
Or how about an award for the dumbest or most pointless tag line?
Other ideas?
A well-known (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: “What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.” The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, (What is the tortoise standing on?” “You’re very clever, young man, very clever,” said the old lady. “But it’s turtles all the way down!”

I'm pretty sure that we had "someone" (or should that be something?) who, at least temporarily, had the highest DPA....
Let's not offer any prizes in that category!!!Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.
He's not even "someone".
He's not anyone now that he's no-one since coming undone.

he's no-one
Yes, he may not have ever been "one". I'm no psychologist, but I know there's a term for someone who not only isn't internally unified, but seems to not know about facets of himself...... AAAhem. Let's drop that.

On a positive topic: The exact number 10K doesn't matter. What does matter is that you have shown yourself to be a person of outstanding character and generous spirit. Thank you for sharing your perspectives (as well as your knowledge) with the rest of us.Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.
You're right that numbers don't much matter. (Except to somebody who is counting my spelling errors) I can think of a few here who have showed themselves to be top shelf material within a few posts after registering.
But thanks for the tip o' the 'at..

Piffin,
Looks like your knocking on the door! Don't forget the 10K Maintenance schedule. Change oil, lube (don't forget the steering linkage) top- up fluid levels, inspect battery connections,Rotate all 4, & inspect cooling system hoses, clamps & connections.
Keep this up & you will be @ 100k in no time.
Andy @ FHB better send you a Milkbone or something or were all going to have to gang up on him>
Personally, I'd have to say that milkbone better be sporting a Fine Homebuilding noggin topper when it arrives too.Kevin Halliburton

identified
The way you use that word is unusual (in fact I've almost never seen it used that way). I learned to use it in that manner while studying with a Fourth Way group. How'd you learn to use it that way?
Ya know, my friend, someday we may just have to take some time to converse in person!Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.

Now how do you suggest to get the better half interested?

well when you identify with your ego....I think you get locked in so to speak.
I believe one needs the ego like a car.just let it run down the road..thats all its supposed to do.the minute you, "identify" with it......Kaboommmmmm. "Runnin' down the road tryin' to loosin my load" : )
Know what I mean bro?
Be well
