The Vendor Client relationship – in real world situations
I don’t really have time to comment on this myself this morning but I think all the folks here really should check out this excellent YouTube video I found this this morning in a blog post entitled Tell you what…I can cover the hard costs… in Kelly Morisseau’s Kitchen Sync blog.

Oh, that is rich
I have one contractor I need to send that to. On top of the "I haven't got that in the budget" he's a whiner too. Go figure
Thanks
I like that one!!
I got snagged just a bit by one of those customers just last week. Wanted my bid on all new trim, flooring, fixtures, and paint in a two bedroom, 850 sq ft rental. Oh, and there was some trash that needed to be hauled, left by the previous tenants.
Gave him my price.
He called back two days later, claiming he still was considering the bid, but needed that trash hauled right away -- could I do that for, say, $50?
Now, nobody jump on me for what I'm about to say because, as a custom furniture maker, I've had plenty of people want me to make it for what they saw if for in the Sears catalog. But as a consumer, especially when I needed contractor bids for my commercial building, I got the big stiffy from a lot of guys. It was exactly the opposite sort of economic climate... a record year for building permits in our city. When contractors did bother to keep appointments it was, "Here's my price, I'll get to it when I can, take it or leave it but if you don't take it, it'll be more next week." So I think the ball rolls both ways. I suspect that some contractors are now upset because... yeah, they're tempted to dicker and that doesn't help the ego at all. Everyone's got to eat.
Maybe it's a trust thing.
I read a survey yesterday which indicated that when asked to rank different occupations in terms of how much people trust them, residential builders/renovators ranked 38 out of 40.
Strange, considering how much time we spend in people's houses without them.
Funny funny video, though.
