The Whisky Bottle Remodel Mystery?
Any contractors, remodelers or DIYers ever find old bottles hidden in walls or ceilings?
While removing the ceiling of our 1920s two-story upstairs/downstairs duplex in the SF Bay area, we pulled out 100s of old whisky bottles (all empty) stashed behind the lath of the downstairs ceiling, in the joist bays.
Most of the bottles are imported whisky and a few random ceramic beer and glass gin bottles.
200+ bottels came out this 1200 sq.ft ceiling, we had to have an extra demo crew member just to catch the falling bottles!
We have asked locally but nobody seems to know why anyone would need or want to do this…your thoughts?

Prohibition.....
era perhaps? I suspect you have found a small treasure. At least 3 figures on e-bay.
thanks Mike
thanks for your thoughts mike. we still don't understand why this would of happened even during prohibition. if you were caught with liquor bottles you went to jail?
They must have been hiding it due to prohibition. Could be worth some $ to the right person especialy due to the circumstances of them having been hidden away.
thanks for your thoughts Adam.
Consider that grandpa didn't want grandma to find them.
we rebuilt the garage out back a few years back. we found grandpa's bottles in the walls.
Workers.
It took that much to get the house built.

thats the most frustrating part of this story, I put my level on the wall and its still straight up plumb, just the way it was built 80 years back
