I am trying to update all my thermostats to inculde a common wire to avoid relying on batteries. the problem I have is that some of the thermostats are far from the furnace, or are multiple floors above the source.
Does anyone know if a common wire can be jumped from a 120 circuit if run through a transfomer? and if so, which transformer?
Thanks in advance!

Is this even worth the effort? A thermostat battery should last several years.
Thermostats draw very little. I get an easy couple of years out of my batteries. You'd need some code-approved installation of a transformer that output the correct DC voltage for your stat. It's just not worth it.
I don't know if you're looking for an "off the grid" approach but shelf life of a set of batteriestoday is such that you might as well just keep spares in cold storage.
I'm guessing that it's a boiler, not a furnace. And that the zone valves are in the apartment. If that is the case, there is a common wire at the zone valve.
