We’re toying with the idea of going to Wisconsin – can anybody tell me how the industry is back there now? I’m a carpenter with 6 years exp. framing and finish – what are current wages and is there much of a demand for carpenters? For those of you who live there, what do you like most/dislike most about Wisconsin? Do you get good winters? (lotsa snow, good x-c skiing). And… how expensive is housing, land? We like rural.

Where in Wisconsin?
I live near Madison. The economy is good. Lots of work, in fact I may need to hire a few carps in a couple months or so.
Wages are good up here but housing and taxes are fairly high.
Northern Wisconsin gets a great winter. The snow stays there, unlike down here where it used to stay before the climate became more like Chicago's. Freeze, snow, thaw, rain. Blah.
Where are you from?
MD
*Hey Mad Dog: I built some condos near Baraboo, Wis at the Devels Head Ski resort. The owners are friends of mine from the Detroit area. I'm currently living in Michigan. How are things going in Old Mad Town. Nice place. Dale Buchanan
*Mad Town's all torn up. The war has all but destroyed the capital area.Whoops, just kidding...it only looks that way. It's all under construction, because a local rich guy donated a couple hundred million for a whole new arts district, so they've been buying up buildings, tearing some down, have a big master plan. Already lost the best restaurant in town to it, some good bars will go too.I guess your friends will make money on that ski hill this year, finally got some real winter. Where in Michigan are you?Regards,MD
