This Old House – Bedford 2011 – Lead Paint

Did anyone else see any non-compliance issues in their implementation of the RRP Rule on this project?
I saw at least one: None of the windows or doors in the work area were covered to prevent dust from entering the house. Isn’t that a requirement when working on the exterior of a building?
Also, when they were excavating for the addition in the back of the house, why didn’t they remove the siding from the house first? Especially if it had lead paint on it. Perhaps it had been installed in 1978 or later?

Did not see the show, but think I remember our instructors telling us to seal the windows / doors in the vicinity, b/4 outside work
They did it again in this week's episode.
Cal,
This week, when they removed the siding from the front of the house, they again set up with plastic on the ground, warning tape around the edges of the plastic, and Tyvek suits.
But it appears that they didn't cover the windows again.
Then, it looks like the window restorer who was removing the sashes and trim to restore the windows did not have all of the plastic, etc. set up. They were also doing this while the scaffold was still set up outside for removing the siding. (Perhaps the removal outside was completed. Hard to tell.)
Anyway, that's what I saw. Perhaps someone else saw it more clearly or has personal knowledge of what occurred at the work site and will enlighten us.
Couple o' Glass City guys...
y'all know each other? Compete? Work together?
David
I got to know Bryan through this site, and may have first met him because of a visit here by an Austrailian-Mark Cadioli.
We run into each other on occasion, share info, that sort of thing. While I have worked in Findlay in the past, luckily I no longer make that 45 minute drive. We have not worked together and only in the most general sense, compete for work in this corner of NW Ohio. I'd have no problem referring Bryan for work south of here.
Cal's a good friend
David,
Yes, we know each other. Cal lives in the Toledo area. I live in Findlay, which is about 45 miles to the south of Toledo.
He has his customers, and I have mine. We're really not close enough to compete against each other. We both have been in business long enough we have repeat business, or referrals from previous customers.
And, I work by myself. That way I have no employees. I just hire a temp worker when I need an extra hand.
So, how do you interpret the RRP rule for exterior work?
Used to live
in Ann Arbor, MI, and have been to your towns, but it has been a few decades. I remember some good stuff at the Toledo Art Museum.

The Art Museum is a real treat. Their collections, the visiting exhibits and the programs that are offered make it a jewel.
This is a nice place to live.
Rewatched this week's show.
And when I did, I see I missed a couple of things.
First, when they were removing the windows in order to restore them, they did have plastic on the floor and taped around the edges.
Second, they put the sashes in plastic before removing them from the house to take them to restore them.
It does appear that the pump jack scaffold on the outside of the house was still set up, but the siding removal was completed. Of course, it could have been a different side of the house.
These shows go so fast that it's hard to see everything the first time.
So, I apologize for not catching these details when I first watched the show.
