Through Wall AC – Insulation Plan
Good day all, finally installed my room AC this summer through the wall.
It is great, for 300$, the price was right, couple of hours of modifications to the wall and it’s working great now. (See attached picture : AcInstalled.jpg)
I had a plan to leave it there for winter (I live in Gatineau,Québec near Ottawa (Canada) ). Winter can go below -30oC (-22oF) here sometimes but avg -15oC (-5oF).
My plan was to build a “styrofoam box, and cover the exterior part with fiberglass and paint it white (so it looks good). I have had discussion with a few people, and I am a bit confuse, on what should be on the warm side (plastic / reflective membrane etc).
I have attached a plan on what I was planning for (IsolationExterieur.jpg).
Do you have an advice?
Thanks in advance
Ben

I can't tell from the picture, but is the unit mounted in a sleeve? If so, in your climate, I think I would pull the entire unit out for the winter and stuff the opening with fiberglass insulation.
