I am planning a new project for the upcoming months. The house I will be working with has a stucco exterior (see attached picture), which I would like to add siding to, in order to add depth and character to the house.
I am planning to a couple of courses of siding the lower half of the house. At this point I am planning to remove the stucco from this area before resheathing and siding. My question primariy is about the interface between the siding and the stucco. what is the best way to weather proof this area?
If you have completed, or have experience with this type of application I would greatly appreciate your input!

I'd use a straight edge to make a perfect saw cut across the stucco. I'd break a flashing to go up and under the waterproof membrane under the stucco and to extend over your siding cap.

I use a big 7" angle grinder with a diamond toothed wheel. I put a shoulder strap on it to help carry the weight, that way I could guide the cut with my whole body instead of just arm strength.
