Friend is trying to find garage doors that meet 3 criteria: have good insulation, are affordable, and fit the opening tight. Mostly the latter. Not as concerned with appearance. The garage will double as a sometime workshop for a pottery business, and air infiltration can affect the operation of the kiln or something like that. Drafts are bad for what he needs to do. Point being, most garage doors don’t have a great seal, and he needs to improve on that without busting the bank.
Any brands do especially well in this regard?
Thanks. Jim

Wayne-Dalton Thermoguard.
*I've been very happy with my insulated door, installed in 1999. It's made by Garaga Doors, Inc., 333 Bayview Drive, Barrie, Ontario, Canada L4N 8X9. Phone (705) 733-1173. Web site http://www.garaga.com. The door has quite a high R-value and the seals are very good. It's a solid, well made door.Your friend is right. Drafts are bad for kiln operation.
*Lots of brands plus lots of insulation packages around. Just visit the local lumberyard and door store. They will have a few options. Don't know of much difference between brands within feature lines. Since you don't say anything about fancy doodads I expect you just want the cheapest thing around that does the job. So this advise will work.BUT, make sure your furnace/boiler/whatever doesn't get its' combustion air from the garage. Many that are installed in the garage need a sloppy garage door to get enough combustion air. If they can't get it there they will try the house. If both are really tight then they starve. So, if yours get its' air from the garage you either need to leave the door sloppy or install and external combustion air source.
