I’m going to be building a new house starting in a couple months and i’d like to find someone who woudl be interested in working with me on some tile work. I’ve done a couple bathrooms in my current house and would like to do the work in the new house — 3000 sq ft Timberframe home — but i’d really like someone to work with.
I’d be happy with eithe (1) an older retired guy that just doesn’t want to do all the work anymore but wouldn’t mind advising me during the job or (2) someone that is just looking for some extra work on the off hours or (3) someone that wouldn’t mind working with the a fairly easy-going (ok no snide remarks) homeowner/engineer.

bob, if you would, there's a guy looking for some engineering advice here: http://forums.taunton.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=tp-breaktime&msg=55767.41
One good turn might get you another.

no sweat...but i'm an electrical engineer and almost exclusively s/w nowadays but i'll read the post -- haven't looked at it yet -- and if i can say anything that adds value i'm glad to do it.
darn, this guy wants a structural eng in the worst way. So, if a kid were just finishing his BS and was thinking electrical engineering, what would you say?Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

It's a good field and i don't think he'd ever be out of work. Just make sure you enjoy it...if you want to be rich, be a doctor :).
I'll pass the word along to the boy, a good kid, used to date my daughter. Yankee fan tho he is...........

No problem...tell him to write me anytime. My focus and undergraduate work was in control theory, computer hardware and communication. Graduate work was still hardware focused...computers and communication. Univ of FL. My biggest advice woudl be ... just like anything else...don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and delay any desire to get into management until later <-- not that it's bad, but just like anything else, if you don't pay your dues, it's hard to manage those that do.
BTW, i read the hot tub post. Definately anything i could add value to but interesting reading nonetheless.
