I cant believe theres one tile job I haven’t done but I havent ever laid tile on linoleum.
I know for sure its acceptable but the prodcedure?
I’m going to Florida this Saturday to help my sick Mom move to Orlando near my Sister.
When we get there I’ll have two days to totally tile her kitchen which is small.
Bringing my snap cutter, nippers, knee pads etc etc.
Should I bring my belt sander to rough up the floor first?
Then clean it up real good, or is a good dewax super cleaner such as muriatic acid (kidding) ok? A good cleaner then thinset mixed with a liquid latex additive mix ok?
anyone ever tried just cleaning linoleum real well then thinsetting?
The lin supposidly is down really well over a slab. We shall see.
BE missed here at BT for a week starting Saturday
Namaste

funny andy i have a similar question, i'm doing a kitchen reno, new cabinets dont match the ceramic tile so i have set a few new ones after removing some old
the existing ceramic is thin setted(new verb) on to top of existing vinyl and boy was it stuck good, i acually peeled back vinyl breaking out a few tiles
my question is, what is a good adhesive to adhere a few ceramic tiles to vinyl, existing looks like thinset, polymer modified?
have to set about 6 tiles to accomadate new cabinets, any suggestions?
yes customer has extra tile
Steve,
the best is a liquid latex mortar additive rather than mortar in the "cheap" bag of thinset (where it says that additive helps).
I just wanted to know if I had to do any special prep to the linoleum other than a good scrubbing of dewaxer etc etc.

We used to lay tile over sheet vinyl all the time in Las Vegas- it was the best way to upgrade flooring. Take the vinyl that comes free with the house, and pay to have tile installed over it- it was 1/2 the price of the builder upgrade charge.
We just stripped the floor with liquid stripper to remove any wax, etc., and laid right over it with latex-modified thinset. The vinyl actually acted as a slipsheet, keeping any cracks that formed in the slab from telegraphing thru the tile. The good tile setters out there actualy used a smooth vinyl sheet under their new installations anyway for the same purpose.
