I have several baths to remodel. They have ceramic tile shower ot tub surrounds set in very sturdy mud jobs. I’ve read you can actually use the existing tile as a base for a second layer of tile, although it seems questionable to me. Can anyone advise and if sucessful, provide any pointers re installation??

Our tilesetter is comfortable doing it, although I don't remember him ever telling me that he did an entire shower stall overlay. Check out:

Many thanks for feedback and site references. I'm pretty sure I can use this approach for a tub surround; the shower in other bath room is just too small and I'll need to just tear it out and start from scratch.
