I`m tearing out glued down vinal tiles in a commercial bathroom.I`m going back with ceramic tile.Can you use thinset or would some type of glue be better?I`d say we probably won`t be able to get all of the old glue up.Bill

You had better find a way to get all of the old glue up. If this means removing existing subfloor, or covering with new, do not install new ceramic tile to existing residue.

"DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE"
What's the vinyl glued to? None the less...get the glue up pretty good then thinset CBU down (cement boards). Screw the CBU down over the thinset and get to tiling..with thinset. I'd use an acrylic latex additive rather then water to the thinset, but thats just me....I always over do things.
One other question before I disappear into the zone......are we talkin glue over concrete?????????
