Tiling Fireplace Surround- Zero Clearance Types

Hi All,
On the new house build, I put in a zero-clearance type, fireplace insert- the types where the drywall comes flush with the face of the unit. I want to tile around the the unit and up to the firebox opening and would like to use Haribacker. Attaching the Hardibacker to the drywall portion is no problem, but what about the 4″ or so of sheet metal that surrounds the perimeter of the firebox? (black sheet metal in attached picture) You certainly can’t mortar and screw to that. Would Liquid Nails be adequate? Maybe supplemented with a few sheet metal screws?
Thanks in advance!
Anthony

I'd ask the fireplace manufacturer for advice. Adhesives like Liquid Nails will turn brittle with the heat.
I just typed a LONG answer and lost it in the ether
Short answer is no, don't do it becayuse Underwriters and m anufactrureres sp;ecs do not test it that way.
email me if you want more detail
