I’m planning to put ceramic tile in a bathroom on top of a wood floor. I want to put hydronic radiant heat under the tile. The floor is plenty strong to support a thick mortar bed but I am wondering how thick and also if I can mix up my own version of lightweight self-leveling cement. The reason I would like to is due to my remote location.

I've heard the electric wire mesh heating system, which is installed right into the thin set, works really well and cost very little to operate. You can even control the floor temperature with a thermo-sat...unless you are already set up with a radiant floor system which will allow you to tie into the system. If not, check with your local tile store or better yet, a wholesale tile supplier.
good luck!!
