Tiling over “used” backer-board?
Hey all……
Doing a complete remodel, including tile work. Pulled off the tile in the shower, (put up with mastic, and not very well) and would really like to re-use the backer board that is already up. Any problems?
Thanks in advance, hope I gave enough info, it’s pretty straight foreward, I think. Beck

Whatever time and money you think you are gonna save...........
You won't.
Do it right. The guy who put the shower together with mastic probably hid some other quality work behind it.

I second that. I'd want to see what's behind that backer board before I put my name on it. Pull it down and replace it.
Wonder how much http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=37568.1 has in common with this one?
The installation method described in http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=37568.1
was used in another shower now more than 10 years old and stil holding up perfectly.
Thanks all,,,,just as I figured, but thought I'd farm it out to you folks........can always count on a helpful response. Got to looking at the stall today after my guy demo'd it yesterday and felt that I wanted to get a look behind it as well. Funny thing, everything else in the house seems pretty well done, structurally and high end materials, but the tiling all did leave something to be desired. Beck
