Timber Frame work.
I am currently working on a barn conversion and hoping to continue timber frame work through the winter. I have experience in all phases and willing to relocate pretty much anywhere for the right situation. I have truck and tools and dog….
Would love to hear about all available opportunities.
thanks

truck, tools, and dog.... will travel....
Man, do I miss those days. Good luck on your journey brother. Wish I had some work for you, you sound like my kinda people.
Hi Mad,
I am gearing up to build a post and beam for myself in Groton in '05 (or, maybe, foundation in '05 and structure in '06). Am closing on the land this week. Am currently reading "Builder's Guide to Cold Climates" by Lstiburek, "Foundations and Concrete Work" by the editors of Finehomebuilding, and Sarah Susanka's (also of Finehomebuilding) "Not So Big Solutions for Your Home", which I got for Christmas. I have a builder friend who lives in North Dakota who will come out and work with me to build the house, but I think I would like at least one more experienced person. Jim and I are both very quality conscious. We worked together for about a month putting a small addition on my house in Minnesota. We often had "discussions" about the best way to do something. He usually won, and we are still good friends.
If this sounds like the kind of situation in which you would be comfortable and can contribute, let me know.

Sounds interesting. If this is in S Dakota, I might be interested.
It's in MA.
Too bad! That's a long way from KC. The Dear Wife would certainly support me in following any dreams. I even have a camper, although I don't know how I would move my camper and my tool box on wheels at the same time. I figured if it was in SD, I could make two trips.
I actually went through high school in MA. I always say it was the best education I ever got.
I like the quality I sense in your post. At this point in my life, if the builder doesn't want quality, I am not interested. Keep me in mind in case you don't find who you want. Sometimes things just work out.

I remember those days. Sleeping in the truck with the dog, wake up with two inch chisels next to your face. I timber frame up in Vermont, sorry I haven't got work for you but you should go to the Timber Framers Guild website. They are an indespendsible source of everything 6x6 and larger. The quarterly they publish always has ads for people wanting work or people looking for workers. Give it a shot, the best people in the world are timber framers. Good luck!
I'm thinking of having a 3-car garage/workshop built this winter/spring. Would love to find out more about whether timber frame is feasible.
Email me privately if interested in talking more.
I'm in CT.

I'm building a timberframe (and have been doing so for the past three years.. It's me and me alone working nights and weekends..)
I'm doing it very much on the cheap while using supurb stuff..
If you are a do-it- yourselfer I'll gladly discuss things with you..
I remember reading about your project from time to time about a year ago. I'd love to talk to you. Like I said, mine's a detached garage/workshop....if it takes longer to build, the only one in the family who'll be affected is me.
