Anybody know of a good architect who knows what a timber frame is and how to design for one? We are in the New York metro area.

Hey Mark, I would recommend any of the Timber Frame Companies that are out there as a good place to start. They usually have their own in house architects and some stock floor plans also. The big problem is that they are pretty pricey but could save in the long run? Try Davis, Riverbend, Benson etc. but maybe a smaller company will be better for your needs? The whole Timber Frame thing for my money is alot like Log Homes, it is going to cost you more than conventional construction but in the end you get what you pay for. Or not-
*Bob's right, check with some local Timberframers. If you can't find any, get a current issue of Timberframe Magazine and fine one in there. Although, I would stay away from Riverbend or Benson unless you make a high 6 figure salary. Check with a small company. I found that they tend to treat you better. The bigtime Timberframe companies are only interested in building million dollar homes, not $150,000 homes.Matt
*Do you know of any local or small timberframers in central Colorado?
