I just completed this addition to our home here in Canada. We love the outdoors but the bugs make it too hard to eat outside (except in winter !)We have planned this for some time. I have footing pads at 4′ depth with sonotubes to the pad. A contractor poured the pad with a light broom finish. I framed the roof using a timberstrand ridge beam and 2″ x8″ rafters. The structural posts were wrapped with kd pine at a full 1 ” x 6″ and 8″ , chamfered edges and final sand. The ceiling was covered with 3/4″ x 6″ v-match, stained before installation and put up. The false beams were applied over the v-match to complete the look. The ceiling is insulated “just in case”. The whole project was finished in Sikkens stain and after 2 years still looks good. We decided this spring to install the screen as we hummed and hawed (?)about it. I just finished the screen as well as building the doors this weekend and already christened the patio with neighbours. The patio is 14′ X 23′ and 12′ high. It got to be bigger than I planned but it holds a lot of people comfortably. The bbq is stored around the corner under a covered porch. The screen material is “Screentight” which works extremely well. I do some screening for some of my customers and we use the Screentight to install screen in camber top openings. We have a beautiful spot here and we thought to take advantage of the scenery and to create a space with a distinctive “cottage” feel without leaving home. Coffee and newspaper is standard on weekend mornings as well as lounging.
First we get good- then we get fast !

looks nice - I'll be over for coffee on Saturday - and have your wife throw a few extra griddle cakes on for me.
