Does anyone have a recommendation on how to tint Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane (oil based)? The effect I am hoping to achieve, is an almost black appearance with striping on the light grain in the CVG doug fir I used for a picture frame (think a less crazy, dark zebra wood). I used Minwax Ebony stain, but it has a brownish tint to it, so I thought if I tinteded the poly with black, I could get closer to the look I was hoping for.

I've never had good luck mixing the Transtint dyes in poly. It never seems to disperse.

I would go this route. You're going to have a difficult time getting a dye stain to make a drastic color change. A pigment coloring will have a greater effect.
Thanks, I'm going to give this a try!
No prob. Homesteadfinishing is one of the best sites for info too. There's a lot of stuff to read there.
