Although I’ve poured more concrete than I care to remember over the years, I have never done a handicap ramp. I have one to pour soon and would appreciate any and all comments and tips on the subject. There will also be a small amount of curb involved. I am especially interested in recommended slump, design mix, and finishing techniques.

first work it all out on paper.. and make sure yur gonna get the pitch u want...1 in 20 is a good goal..
check out yur ADA guidelines for all the ins and outs... max lentgth...
form and pour your walls ...
shoot a 2x4 at the bottom of the walkway slab that will sit on top of yur walls... nail another one to the side of that .. and form yur slab wall at least 6 inch thick for a good looking profile..this double two by will give a 3 inch overhang to the slab....
set a cant strip at the bottom of the slab and another one at the top to give a clean look to the edge..
work out your railing detail and set your pipe inserts in the pour ... if you will use a welded rail..
have your welder assemble on site so he can match your holes...
work out your control joints so they will coordinate with the pipe locations
keep your mix stiff... i don't know the slump..
but at one in twenty, it's not much of a problem..
..i like a mag finish and then a light broom...
b but hey whadda i no ?
don't screw with the curbs... use pre-cast and set them before you pour or form your ramp...
