I’m having a new addition built on to the back of our house. TJI’s are being used to support OSB floor sheathing. The TJI’s are 23′ long. They are fastened to the house at one end and fastened to a 2×12 at the other end. They are supported and nailed down to a beam that runs under the center of each TJI. My contractor says no blocking is necessary between these TJI’s. The floor seems very solid. The floor passed inspection. (Did the inspector look under there? I don’t know.) My question is this. Will these floor joists tend to twist if they are only fastened in a verticle position at the ends of a 23′ span? Should I sneak down there and fasten 2×10 blocking between the web of the joists at least above that center beam after all contractors and inspectors have moved on? Can I still scoff at anything less than an 8 on the richter scale?
