a guy has asked me if i would hang the board for him in his present house project. the way we do things over here is, we hang the board, apply self adhesive mesh tape, then the plasterer’s follow on with joint compound, one coat, then they apply a full plaster job. it is done like this on 99% of houses here. we also only use 8×4 sheet’s, and the houses are usually between 1000 and 2000 sq.ft.
i’d like to give a per board price, incase this became a possible income later on.
so i would be pricing for hanging the board (hang it with a few nails, then follow on with the screws), then lashing out the self adhesive tape (not much in this). i would be working on my own. any other suggestion’s are appreciated, but the main question is, how many boards, taking everything into account would be a reasonable daily average?
thanking you for any help.
good luck

In one day, I have seen various hangers do as few as 20 and as many as 105 4x12's. I would put the daily average at about 65, maybe a little more. We use mostly 4x12's here, because taping and finishing the joints and fasteners is much more popular here than skim coat plaster. (It's a money thing)
*Our hanger charges between $5 and$7 for a 4x8 depending on the difficulty of the house. Makes a nice living but it is hell on the body. Are you doing the plastering too? That Irish plaster is brilliant and just the standard treatment. I'd love to get that over here.
*i'm not doing the plastering, no. but the plasterers over here are not set up, or don't like hanging board. so i'm tossing the idea around to see if it worth a go.still, i really an't believe that a single worker can hang 105 12*4 boards in a day - Tim, how long a day was that, a week!!
*eddie,no doubt he meant a crew of at least 3 men. Crews around here can rock a 3,000 sq. ft. house in a few days, and better quality than a picky carp like me.
*so Mad Dog, what is a more realistic number (8x4 sheets), for a lone monkey, on average.thanks and good luck
*I hung rock for a good while along with taping. My partner and I hung 65 a day before we could go home. Our high was 100, and we were not fast. You can not hang ceilings by your self, so we are talking two men. WE split and hung walls by our selves after we big sheeted the walls with 12s.WE also split to hang ceiling butts. We always preferred 12s because its better money. You will need someone to help you. Two men should hang 4000 ft a day in 8 hrs or less. 4000 ft =125 8s or 84 12s. So one man should hang 2000 sq ft of walls by himself. If you dont do that it isn't a decent living. @10cents per ft thats only 25.00 per hr. Thats what they charge here. Every now and then someone comes through doing it at .08. Im glad I hire it done these days as 5/8s is a killer.
*eddie Tim Mooney is right on here. My comments above referred to a two man crew, which I have found is typical. And yes, that was 105 pieces of 5/8" 4x12 board in one day, glued and nailed. (8-9 hrs)
