the old house that i live in currently has two layer of shingles on the roof. i’m planning to tear of all the shingles and replace them with 40 year architectural. the decking looks to be in good condition. however, due to the age of the home i’m wondering if it would be a good idea to deck over the existing plywood decking with 7/16 OSB, but i’m concerned that the extra decking and weight of the shingles would be too much for the 2 x 6 framing.

If the current plywood is in good shape, no delamination or rot leave it alone and install the new roof and flashing
I agree with DualPurpose...."don't fix it if it aint broke."
Fred,
How thick is your current roof sheathing? The last 2 roofs I did, both were only 3/8 thick. Both were in fair to poor condition, so I did what you were thinking...I added 7/16 OSB overtop. This worked great for me...but I would have not done it if the original decking was a little thicker and in better shape.
