OK, y’all asked for it. As you may recall, I was trying to solve placing the toilet flange 9″ from the rough-in framing vs 12 1/2″, not leaving enough space for the toilet tank. I cut out a hole in the wall with about 2″ of free space on each side of where the tank would go, about 3″ below the bottom of the tank, and up to the height of the adjacent window. I simply pushed the sheetrock back against the layer behind with some construction adhesive, then put some 1x and 2x into the cavities, held with sheetrock screws, screwed on some scrap rock on the edges, and mudded it with tape-on paper corners. For grins, I put a little shelving in as well. I think it came out OK — though I wish I’d taken the shelving side pieces all the way up to the top of the inset.
Two files, one roughed in and rocked, and the other all finished.

no no no... you did that as a creative way to concerve space in a tight bath, twas'nt a mistake at all, it was intentional
Oh, right. Of course we did. How silly of me to forget that! :)
Man, you handled that like it was meant to be. That could be a clever design trick if you did it again on purpose. Good job!

Nice job geoff. Now starting setting you flange 12" from now on.
