It is brand new! Most folks don't have 3 phase power. not sure why the dealer got in a machine and power feeder in 3 phase but I'm glad they wanted to get rid of it.
There was a surplus of three phase tools around L.A. 30 years ago.
They were the last of the ww2 tooling.
Huge factories were closing shop.
The end of an era.
We don't need tools any more. We have computers. ; ^ )"There are three kinds of men: The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation and the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."Will Rogers
I've noticed a lot of CL ads for new Powermatic equipment. Looks like a dealer going out of business or just clearing out inventory. Don't know if you saw them but a few months back there was a series of ads from someone on Camano Island liquidating an estate full of beautiful old-time iron.
Haven't noticed much on CL, but then haven't really been looking much either- probably a good thing. Was killing some time waiting for the wife before going out and saw it.
What do you plan on making with it?
Pretty much the same as before, It's going to replace my Jet 3 hp in the shop. it's not a tilting spindle, but then it's not $30k either. I don't know that I really needed the extra hp but the fence and height adjustment is so much better. Wasn't really looking for a shaper, just happened to see it.
BTW have you gloated over at Knots yet?
No, I only build furniture for myself these days.
Over at Knots you'll get 3 people with tool envy, 7 telling you all about 3 phase, and 12 telling you why that shaper is inferior to brand X........
Do you have a converter for that?
Or do you have three phase.
You can make one if you want.

I have 3 phase power. Slowly converting everything over to 3 phase equipment.
Mat, I'd like to pick your brain for a minute or two about your 3-phase...
BACKGROUND: I have three utility companies in the rear easement and my utility company has 3phase. I know that it runs equipment more efficiently. Once, I looked into getting it, but they started out with "You'll have to have an electrical engineer tell you what load you need." That meant added dollars as well as the 3-phase breakers, breaker panels, and wiring. Being that I thought I'd find only one or two 3-phase tools, I had them just run 220 to a new meter base.
My questions are: Is 3-phase a more expensive KWH vs KWH of 220? Did the electric company charge you for a ground-level transformer or additional hookup fees? How much more expensive is 3-phase per month than standard 200amp, 220v service?
Thanks,
Bill
My understanding is that 3 phase is more efficient and that the motors last longer. I had an electrician install everything and if I remember correctly the amp draw is lower on 3 phase motors. As for cost there is no difference for 3 phase and single phase, just how many kilowatts are used. The panel and breakers are more expensive. The electrical bid was about $20k to wire the shop back in 2001.
Drool Drool!
