Hi guys,
Was thinking about hitting the ToolCrib reconditioned sale. Wanted to pick up the Dewalt 2horse plunge router, and the pc left blade circular saw. I was wondering what you guys think about the reconditioned tools, any experiences, pro’s, cons, etc. I was also wondering about the left blade saw? I have a little skill sidewinder, and love it so I thought about getting the porter-cable. Any thoughts on the above topics would be appreciated, I have never bought reconditioned before, but I “do like to save de dollars.”
Thanks
Chris

I've got a dbl. bevel 12" Dewalt slider and a small Dewalt table saw (sorry, I don't know the part #s), plus a hammer drill and several cordless tools that were sold as reconditioned. The only difference I see is there is an R stamped into the handle and they were 30%+ cheaper. Get 'em if you can.
Good Luck
I've had good luck with reconditioned tools. The ones I have came with a new tool warranty and cost 10-20% less than new. Advantage Gases and Tools in Portland, Me has a good selection of Porter Cable, and Makita. You can access them online at http://www.toolsforless.com If you don't see what you are looking for try again at a later time as the selection changes.

You might save a few bucks over what you would see the same tool for on sale, sometimes you can save a lot. It depends on the tool, so do your homework.
One thing about the PC saw, people here talk it up, and I have tried them several times and made a funny face each time, I just don't care for them. And I do not care for the left saws at all. That is just me, what do you think?
I am pretty sure, when I buy a tool, that I am not dropping a hundred or so on a paperweight.
I try to buy all my stuff recond....and have bought most of my recond stuff thru Tool Crib. Same warrenty as new....so what's the concern?
Jeff.......Sometimes on the toll road of life.....a handful of change is good.......
If you have right blade and left blade saws, will the tables tilt so you get opposite bevels? That's the best reason I know for owning one worm drive and one s*dewinder.

What was the good reason for owning a wormer?
You heard it everyone!!!
Jim has actually said some thing that might be taken as a positive comment about a sidewinder!!
You gettin soft Crazylegs?
Next you'll be sayin you like the new 2003 Fords!!

Do not try this at home!

Qtrmeg,
I think I will definitely like the pc saw, I like the weight and feel when I look at them in the box stores. It might take a little getting used to (the left blade) but I like them, my little skill saw is a left blade sidewinder. I am looking forward to not having to lean over the saw to see. I figure that if a guy can use a 14 -16 pound wormdrive and cut with the blade on the left than I can use a 10 1/4 pound sidewinder and make out okay. What I also like about the pc's is the dust nozzle, you can attach the hose or dustbag and cut down on the mess. I like pc's sawboss leftblade 6" saw. It weighs nine pounds though.
Ima just a lookin' for the ups man.

Lots of Tool Crib/ recon stuff here, Makita LS 1220 compound miter saw, Makita 14.4 cordless, Milwaukee 50th anniversary sawzall, PC 352VS belt sander, DeWalt 257 screw gun ............ so far there's been no downside. All looked new and have the same warranty as new. No complaints. I have the PC 347, the right blade version ......... great saw. I think you'll really like the 743 left blade version. Light, with plenty cajones. With the dust bag or the hose to adapt it to your shop vac, it really cuts down on remodeling mess. Best sidewinder out there imho. Hard to beat for the price. Qtrmeg is right on doin' your homework. Sometimes a recon is not a good deal as it seems. An example is the Bosch tablesaw. $399 recon, $499 new locally .....but the new saw comes with the folding stand and table outfeed extension.

I've bought three serious tools thru the Tool Crib reconditioned program. They are virtually indistinguishable from new, and come with the new warranty. I wouldn't hesitate to go for it.
