Here are some of the 140 logs that are getting ready for shipping to a saw mill in Indiana. There are some supreme grade white oak with 25 growth rings per inch that are going to Belgium. I still cant believe the hole that was made in my woods….and my shop.
But…the shop is back.

going to Belgium...<---?!
are you sure you don't want me to visit you with the wood mizer? - - then you could build another building in which to keep your wood - - sorry about your woods, tho - it'll be a long time (by human standards) to get back to straight and tall - -
logs are not going to 'Pike Lumber' by any chance?
Hope you got a good $$$ for them WO logs!!
Not much call for WO around you??

The one south of Danville? or the one in Europe? The Danville one would be a bit closer ;)
Are you having the wood milled for your own use, did you sell them, give them away...or what?

John: I meant the country of Belgium. There is one choice log that is going there. I am saving a nice white oak log for the curved stairway that I want to build. I am planning on building a home right in that hole someday.
The other logs were sold to a hardwood lumber outfit to be milled to whatever can be milled out of them.

Stan, how did you manage to hook that one up? Belgium lumberman just happen to be walking by?
I can remember last summer hearing someone talking about a veneer company paying $10k/ea for some super-sized walnut trees, but I can't remember if it was someone I talked to in person or if it was from a BT thread.
I can also remember reading in the paper about some logs pulled out of a riverbed in the US which were then sent to Japan.
I just wonder how the folks went about setting these deals up.jt8

You can't go to the post office here in Western Washington without overhearing a conversation about log prices. Practically everyone with 5 acres has a plan for selling off their logs for tuition payments or to pay their property taxes.
For years the best Douglas Fir logs were exported from here to Japan and Korea where they were worth more than at domestic mills. Might still be the case, although with capitalism on the grow in Eastern Europe that might be changing.
Longtime buddy of mine lives in a very wet area of the Olympic Peninsula, not far from Tim Huler. He has a few BIG maples (not the same as the hard maple back East) that he's been offered big bucks for by veneer buyers.
This continent we live on, we take for granted the natural resources here. At least I do, until I travel around a little and see other landscapes.
Sorry to see those logs laying on the ground like that, Stan. I'll take solice(sp?) in knowing you'll be turning some of that lumber into something beautiful though. And at least nature took those trees down, not somebody out to make a fast buck. Was there significant damage to the lumber? That's one thing we often see out here, windfall often has fractured lumber from the trauma.
John: I have my contacs. The logs are going to make all parties involved satisfied.

No new project pics or aerials for us, Stan?

Guys: I have been going to post just to stop people wondering if I had crashed my gyrocopter.
A little update.... I could not be any busier. I have lots of fun stairways going....and have been doing tons of flying.
I have kind of went into the lurking mode. I have such a passion for my stairwork...and my flying...that I found it hard to post without making it look like I am trying to toot my own horn. I am afraid that I personally feel thats the way they look...and I dont feel comfortable doing that. So....the reason for my lurking.
Stan
What may be toot'n to you is inspiring to the rest of us - keep 'em coming! Especially jobs that are fun to you - they've gotta be awsome; love to see some pics.
Stan, if you're tootin' your horn, it's music to my eyes...and you are one heck of a one man band! Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Doesn't bother me.

Gunner: I am taking off next week in my gyrocopter and attending a rotorcraft fly-in. I have only so much time to take off. The rest of the time is working on stairways so I can take off again. <G>
Calvin has been asking the same and I just cant break away so soon again.
